Kristina Paustian (born in Omsk, Siberia, lives in Berlin) began her career in film as a cinematographer and editor. She studied in the class of the director Thomas Arslan at the Berlin University of the Arts. Her films are characterized by a strong visual signature. She examines anthropological and socio-political topics in her works.

In 2015 Kristina released her first feature-length documentar SWIMMERS (2015), which premiered at Visions du Reel and was awarded with the ARTE Documentary Prize. In 2017 Kristina was part of the Berlinale Talents program.

For the development of her debut feature film Velimir's Prophecy she received the Elsa Neumann scholarship and the Robert Bosch grant. Her film essay Timekeeper is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe. She is co-founder of the Media Art Association (mkv) for the promotion of contemporary art with new media dedicated to the development of experimental narrative and exhibition formats.
